Research-based learning is a widespread concept in teacher education. After an attempt to define the concept, the article explores reasons for using research-based learning in teacher training programmes. The great variety of forms in which the concept is put into practice is presented in a concise synopsis. In the final section, possible main directions regarding the integration of research-based learning in preparation programmes for future teachers are identified and discussed.
