(Request a copy)An article from 1984 celebrating the 400th anniversary of the Haas type foundry describes that the company would not only still produce up-to-date Latin typefaces, but in an effort of "humanitarian aid" also manufactured much required Arabic type for an "underdeveloped" Maghribi market. This presentation investigated the origins of the article and asked questions about the relationship between real and staged corporate benevolence and market-expansion, both in Switzerland and abroad.
