Interventions in Monacensis graecus 223 and Their Historical Relevance

Burri, Renate Marianne (15 March 2019). Interventions in Monacensis graecus 223 and Their Historical Relevance (Unpublished). In: Internationaler Work¬shop “Akindynos’ Role in the Hesychast Controversy”. Universität Bern. 15.-16.03.2019.

Monacensis graecus 223, a codex presumably produced at Akindynos’ lifetime, is the only surviving textual witness for the bulk of Gregory Akindynos’ works. This paper examines to what extent an analysis of this manuscript can contribute to a better understanding of Gregory Akindynos’ role in the Hesychast Controversy. A closer look at this historically highly valuable document, with a special attention to interventions present in this manuscript, will provide new findings not only on its production, function, and history, but also on the milieu of those involved in the controversy.
