In highlighting the different aspects of disclosure between anthropologists and fieldwork communities, the paper posits that the body can do more than get researchers into the field. Showing how it can be used to interrogate scholarly assumptions and emic discourses, the paper draws on a case study of partnering dance. Departing from the assumption of Contact Improvisation as a “gender revolution” as it has been claimed by practitioners and dance scholars, the paper attempts to convey anthropology’s contribution to dance studies by showing how embodied knowledge can be disclosed through affective somatic experience.
