In this contribution it is stressed that the emergence and reproduction of inequality of educational opportunity has to be investigated according to the logic of educational careers. In this respect, the enrolment to school and the children’s development in the elementary school has strongly to be considered. The hypothesis will be reasoned by theoretical arguments and empirical evidence.
