This chapter provides an overview of the recent developments in organizational and management research and practice on sexual orientation and gender identity. While research into workplace-related sexual orientation issues is on the cusp of becoming a more established research field, research into issues related to the gender identity of employees remains very much an embryonic field of study. Focusing on the minority sexual orientations bisexuality and homosexuality, the chapter outlines how individual, organizational, and societal perspectives on workplace-related issues concerning bisexual, gay, and lesbian employees are interconnected. In terms of gender identity, the chapter shows that gender-related inclusion policies are almost exclusively cisgender-related policies, focusing on cisgender women and men. Against this background, the chapter discusses what measures organizations might take, in order to further the inclusion of transgender employees. By deepening our understanding of the specific pressures and barriers trans, and non-heterosexual, employees face at work, and by reflecting upon the ways and means by which organizations might support them, management research and practice can jointly contribute to overcoming cisnormativity and heteronormativity in the workplace, or at least initiate the first steps on the journey towards overcoming them.
